Division of Research Safety Chemical Shipping Restrictions

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standard (CFATS) was finalized on November 20, 2007. This standard requires all facilities that possess a “Chemical of Interest” at or above the screening threshold quantity listed in the standard report via a “Top Screen.”

One category of the “Chemicals of Interest” is those chemicals identified as having a risk while in transit. When these chemicals are shipped, regardless of the amount, the facility must complete a “Top Screen” and submit it to DHS. Therefore, the Division of Research Safety, Chemical Safety Section must be notified prior to shipping any of the chemicals on the list below.

To avoid the burden of the DHS shipping restrictions, order them and have them shipped directly from the manufacturer to the location to be used.
