General Laboratory Safety

This online training provides information regarding standard laboratory safety guidelines, laboratory signs and labels, personal protective equipment, working with biological/chemical/radiological materials, waste disposal, and emergency preparedness.

Who should take it: This training is REQUIRED by all laboratory personnel (Principal Investigators, graduate students, post-docs, technicians, etc.) who work in University research laboratories.

Prerequisites: None

Estimated time: 45 minutes

Frequency: The training only needs to be completed once. However, it should be taken prior to working with biological/chemical/radiological materials or within the first month of working in the laboratory.

Electrical Safety for Labs

This online training provides an awareness of basic electrical safety concepts involving household-level voltages (240 & below) that should be followed in laboratories to avoid electrical shock, damage to sensitive equipment, and the ignition of combustible materials. The training is NOT intended to cover high voltage operations.

Who should take it: All University personnel who work with electricity in research laboratories

Prerequisites: None

Estimated time: 10 minutes
