Order Radioactive Materials

Radiation Safety Manual Policy

Only holders of current Radiation Permits may order radioactive materials. The Permit contains the conditions , limitations, isotopes and quantities under which the approved user may possess and use specific radioisotopes being purchased.

To purchase radioactive materials, the Principal investigator submits a completed University purchase requisition to his/her business office. The purchase requisition should bear the words "Radioactive Material." The PI's campus unit must initiate a purchase requisition for radioactive materials in the Banner system. The unit must also request approval for the purchase from the Radiation Safety Section using an electronic database application available on the DRS web site.

Order Approval Application

The link below will take you to instruction for logging in to the application for managing orders of radioactive materials. Once you are in the application, you will see a list of all requests you have submitted in the past along with links to create new requests or perform searches of past requests.

Requests must contain the name of the PI (chosen from a list) the Vendor, lab and administrative contact information, the Banner requisition number, and a description of the materials being requested. Several items may be requested on a single request, but each item must include the isotope (e.g., C-14, H-3, P-32, I-125, S-35) and the quantity in millicuries or microcuries. If the items requested is a prepackaged kit (e.g., for radioimmunoassay, or RIA tests), specify the number of kits and the number of microcuries per kit.

Attention: The following is a list of approved University Of Illinois holidays. There will be no deliveries of radioactive materials on the dates listed below. Please adjust your research schedules accordingly. Do not order materials to be delivered to the UIUC campus on these days. There will be no Radiation Safety Staff available to check in and deliver the material.
